P. Matthew (Matt) Darby is the founding Partner of the Darby Law Group, LLC, a leading Maryland based law-firm specializing in representing union members in Workers’ Compensation and Personal Injury related matters. The firm prides itself in protecting the rights of firefighters, teachers, law enforcement officers, communication workers and transportation and warehouse workers, among others. The firm is based in Maryland and handles work-related and personal injury matters throughout the State. Matt has been practicing law since 1988. He attended Loyola University in Baltimore, where he received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1985. He then attended the University of Maryland School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor (JD) degree. While in law school, he was a member of the Moot Court Board and the Maryland Journal of International Law and Trade. He is a member of both the Maryland State Bar and the Pennsylvania State Bar.

Matt’s areas of concentration include representing injured workers in various occupations. His practice includes a focus on representing public safety employees, such as firefighters, police, and correctional officers. He has handled countless traumatic injury and occupational disease cases for public safety employees, including those individuals suffering from conditions such as hypertension, heart disease and various cancers. In addition, he is at the forefront of the development of orthopedic occupational diseases cases and handled the seminal case that established the right to compensation for those employees suffering from orthopedic occupational diseases as decided by the Maryland Court of Appeals. He is well-versed in the legal and medical issues involved in these cases.

He is a member of the Workers’ Compensation and Insurance Oversight Committee of the Maryland Legislature. In that capacity, he is active in monitoring legislation that impacts the rights of injured workers in Maryland. He testifies frequently before the Maryland Legislature on issues specific to Maryland’s public safety employees.

In his spare time, Matt enjoys scuba diving, golf, spending time with family and watching football, as he is an avid Baltimore Ravens fan.
